Brainspotting

What is Brainspotting?

Trauma occurs when an individual has experienced physical or emotional injury.  All types of trauma are held in the body and if not fully processed can lead to anxiety, hyper vigilance, difficulty with emotional regulation, substance abuse, unexplained physical pain, and or other psychological symptoms.  Brainspotting is a therapeutic intervention that accesses the location in the brain where these charged emotional memories are stored. Through a series of brainspotting sessions these emotional memories are processed and released resulting in a felt sense of resolve, peace and freedom.

How Does It Work?

Therapist and client work together to locate a spot where the emotional experience is held.  Once the spot is located the client focuses in on the identified spot and allows their sensory and or somatic senses to begin to fully process the unprocessed trauma that continues to be held in the body.  Other resources such as bilateral music, body mapping and somatic stress response are utilized to help enhance the therapeutic process.
